Whitworth College was founded officially on February 19, 1890. During the years 1987 and 1988 plans were made to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Of course, this celebration, all during the 1989 year, was an opportune time for a fund drive. (Timothy R. Biographical NoteEdward B. Lindaman (1920-1982) became president of Whitworth College in 1970 and retired in 1980. He came to Whitworth from North American Rockwell where he was director of programming for the Apollo space project. Ragged Ridge, located in the Thompson Creek drainage of the main watershed for Newman Lake, Idaho, is abundant with wildlife and was used by the Indians as a hunting ground. A meadow was cleared and a house built on the site by a homesteader in about 1915. A fire in 1910 burned part of the property which resulted in natural recovery with a growth of a thick stand of lodgepole pine.
